Leidos’ Defense Systems Mechanical Manufacturing Facility is seeking a Prototype CNC Machinist to join our aerospace manufacturing team. Primary Responsibilities • Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes to manufacture complex prototype aerospace components. • Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, CAD models, and process documentation. • Perform complete machine setups including tooling selection, work holding, and program verification. • Edit/write CNC programs at the machine as needed to optimize machining processes. • Machine a variety of materials including stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, Inconel, and other aerospace alloys. • Verify dimensions using precision inspection equipment including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore • gauges, and indicators. • Work closely with manufacturing engineers, programmers, quality inspectors, and design engineers to solve machining challenges. • Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, tooling, and manufacturing processes. • Maintain clean and organized work areas while following all safety procedures. • Support urgent prototype schedules while maintaining exceptional quality standards Basic Qualifications   • High school diploma/GED with 5+ years of CNC machining experience with mills and/or lathes. • Experience producing prototype or low-volume precision components. • Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation. • Ability to independently perform complete machine setups. • Experience with tight-tolerance machining (±0.001” or better). • Proficient with precision measuring equipment. • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. • Ability to work with minimal supervision. • Be a flexible team player and participate with problem solving and continuous improvements. • Adhere to AS9100 and other quality standards. • Ability to stand for long periods of time. • Must be able to work overtime as needed. • Must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance OR meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance. Preferred Qualifications • Aerospace or defense manufacturing experience. • Experience with 4-axis and/or 5-axis machining. • Familiarity with Siemens, Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, or DMG MORI controls. • Experience machining exotic aerospace materials. • Basic understanding of CAM software and G-code editing. • Ability to inspect first articles and support root cause investigations.
