Summary:
We are seeking a Materials Supervisor to help stand up operations at our new manufacturing facility in Cookeville, TN. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape the materials and warehousing function for a brand-new site supporting three production lines, working closely with leadership to establish material flow processes from the ground up. The role will begin with hands-on training at our Justin, TX location to learn branch-level material operations, with the opportunity to support Rock Island (TMF) during the Cookeville build-out phase before the facility reaches full production in the coming months. This is an ideal fit for a materials, buyer/planner, or warehousing professional with a supervisory or management mindset who is excited to build something new and grow with an expanding operation.
Responsibilities :
Materials Management
• Supervise the receipt, storage, issuance, and movement of raw materials, components, and finished goods.
• Coordinate material flow to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
• Ensure inventory is properly labeled, organized, and stored in designated locations.
• Monitor inventory levels and work with purchasing and operations teams to prevent shortages or overstock situations.
• Oversee material transactions within ERP/WMS systems to ensure inventory accuracy.
• Support implementation and maintenance of inventory location systems and material tracking processes.
Safety & Compliance
• Ensure all employees understand and comply with Company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and applicable state and federal laws.
• Maintain safe, clean, and organized working conditions throughout all warehouse and material storage areas.
• Conduct regular safety observations, inspections, and audits within the materials and warehouse departments.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Conduct and coordinate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training sessions.
• Ensure proper use of PPE and safe operation of forklifts and material handling equipment.
Shipping & Receiving
• Supervise inbound and outbound material handling activities.
• Coordinate unloading, inspection, receiving, and put-away of incoming shipments.
• Ensure outbound shipments are picked, staged, and shipped accurately and on time.
• Verify shipping and receiving documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate with carriers, suppliers, and internal departments regarding shipment status and material availability.
Scheduling & Operations
• Assist in establishing work schedules and staffing plans for materials and warehouse personnel.
• Assign work duties and ensure operational priorities are completed effectively and efficiently.
• Monitor workflow and labor utilization to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with production, planning, and purchasing teams to support operational goals and customer requirements.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Inventory Control
• Lead cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliation activities.
• Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and variances.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure timely reporting of inventory data.
• Monitor obsolete, damaged, or scrap material and coordinate disposition activities.
• Develop and improve inventory control procedures to maximize accuracy and efficiency.
Leadership & Employee Development
• Supervise, coach, and develop warehouse and material handling employees.
• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
• Train employees on inventory procedures, material handling practices, safety requirements, and system usage.
• Conduct employee performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and coaching.
• Address employee concerns and administer corrective action when necessary in accordance with company policies.
Equipment & Facility Management
• Ensure safe and efficient operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, and other material handling equipment.
• Coordinate equipment inspections, maintenance, and repair activities as needed.
• Maintain warehouse organization and housekeeping standards.
• Ensure storage racks, shelving, and material storage systems remain safe and compliant.
Records & Reporting
• Complete all required reports, records, and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Maintain records related to inventory transactions, cycle counts, receiving, shipping, and material movements.
• Track departmental KPIs including inventory accuracy, on-time delivery, productivity, and material shortages.
• Provide operational updates and reporting to management as required.
Qualifications (education, experience, skills, personal attributes):
Education & Experience
• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience in warehouse, inventory, logistics, or materials management leadership roles preferred.
• Strong knowledge of inventory control, warehouse operations, and material flow processes.
• Experience working in manufacturing or industrial environments preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and warehouse safety standards.
• Forklift certification preferred.
• Experience using ERP systems, warehouse management systems (WMS), and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move throughout the warehouse for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and/or move materials up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to operate warehouse equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to work in varying warehouse and manufacturing conditions.
